I Thought I Loved You

At first I thought

I liked you

Then I thought

I loved you

Now it has been

many years

since the day we met.

Yet it's only you

that I think about.

I keep dreaming

about a guy,

full of love and adoration

for me alone.

I always picture

you as him,

as my dream man.

But now I realize

I only love the version

of you that's inside my head.

I love the you,

I dream about every night.

But in reality,

I don't know you at all.

What a shame,

I thought I loved you.

But I never loved

the real you.
